UMS - Universal Management System

Proactive Telecommunications Monitoring & Fault Management

Our system proactively monitors all aspects of the telecommunication infrastructure in real time to ensure overall reliability, availability, and top service levels throughout the environment.

The system works by monitoring the message stream, performance, and operational health of servers, networks, mainframes, VoIP and IP-Telephony devices, as well as environmental devices through non-intrusive, agent-less, protocol independent communication and interaction with all elements throughout the entire infrastructure.

Through UMS almost any server, system, network element, connection, or adjunct device can be monitored and remotely managed including:

  • UNIX Servers, such as Sun, HP, Linux, AIX, etc.
  • Windows Servers, such as NT, 2000, XP, 2003.
  • Mainframe Systems, IBM and plug compatible running OS/390 and z/OS.
  • Network and SNMP Devices such as routers, bridges, switches, hubs, concentrators, etc.
  • IP Telephony Devices such as Avaya Media Servers & IP Office, Nortel BCM, and Cisco Call Manager.
  • Environmental Devices including thermostats, humidistats, UPS, motion sensors, water sensors, contact closures and security devices, etc.
  • Call Centre and Adjunct Devices such as IVRs, ACDs, CSUs, Predictive Dialers, and other call centre devices.

UMS monitors all operational functions and activity of each system or device, as well as all data, message streams, and user activity to proactively detect system faults, exception conditions, performance degradation, significant events, and overall health.

In addition, UMS monitors specific device elements and attributes, such as CPU usage, memory, ports, connections, disk space, and I/O.

If desired, UMS can optionally validate the health or availability of managed systems and devices through periodic tests or automated scheduled actions initiated and analysed on the target system or device.

UMS monitoring is non-intrusive, agent-less, and network independent to provide the most robust, fail-safe, and secure monitoring available. Should the network be inaccessible or inoperative, UMS continues to monitor and collect all data from the managed system or device, providing true "out-of-band" monitoring and management.

As UMS collects the data, it is analysed in real time and compared to customised installation thresholds and criteria to trigger alarms and automated notification, as well as automated restore or recovery processes.

In addition, all system and device data, as well as all user activity on the device, is logged and time stamped within the UMS log, which is continuously available for use in diagnostic and auditing activities.
